For this 2,100-square-foot residence, located within blocks of the beach in Encinitas, California, we were challenged by a limited structural footprint on a large lot. We converted sizable front and back yards into usable, livable spaces that blur the line between indoor and outdoor areas. The client had expressed a wish to spend the majority of time with their family outside, so it became a necessity to create an outdoor living and dining area accessed by bi-folding doors and a covered deck with a pergola to provide shade.
